NEEDLE ROCK VIEW POINT

Needle Rock is also called as Ooshi Malai/Soochi Malai.

It is a tourist spot in Gudalur, Tamil Nadu. Where the Gudalur is located 51 km on the west of Ooty and the Needle Rock viewpoint is about 8 km from Gudalur on the way of Gudalur-Ooty National Highway-67. The view point gives you a 360 degree view. The view point is also known as Soochimalai and gets its name from its conical shape.
It is 8 km on the way to Ooty. From here one can see almost every part of Gudalur and Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, Gudalur town, Bandipur and parts of Mysore. On the other side, you can see parts of Kerala. You can also see a mountain popularly known as Sleeping Beauty (also called Aanakkallu) which is exactly in the shape of a sleeping woman
One of the most amazing places to get a 360 degree view of the Nilgiris, Needle Rock is much more than just a viewpoint. Leagues apart from a usual sunrise and sunset point, it’s a gorgeous place.
This marvelous tourist attraction  offer a breathtaking views of grasslands and valley of the Nilgiris.

MUDHUMALAI NATIONAL PARK / TIGER RESERVE

Geography: A varied terrain ranging from flat lands, undulating parklands, open grasslands, swamps, valleys, and ‘nullas’. The forest cover is mostly tropical moist Deciduous forests, dry Deciduous forests, and scrub forests, along with Tropical Evergreen forests, moist teak forests, dry teak forests, grassy woodlands, shrubs, and swamps in some parts.

ELEPHANT CAMP – THEPPAKADU

DIRECTION

This Theppakadu Elephant Camp in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve is one of the oldest camps in the Country. It was established way back in 1927. Presently 24 Elephants are maintained in the Theppakadu Elephant Camp.

Tourists are permitted to visit the famous Elephant Camp during their feeding times. This is located at Theppakadu, not far from the reception center. Visitation is restricted to morning and evening.

Visit to the elephant Camp is rewarding experience. One can learn about the feeding habits of the elephants, especially camp elephants and their routine.The camp elephants are engaged for patrolling the forests, joy ride for tourists, anti-depredation operations and rescue operations etc.

Timings:
Morning – 8.30 AM to 9.00 AM
Evening – 5.30 PM to 6.00 PM

VEHICLE FOREST SAFARI

DIRECTION

Visitors would be taken on a 60 minutes ride through the tourism zone of the Tiger Reserve in buses run by the Tiger reserve management. Visitors should present themselves 1 hour before their turn. Private Vehicles are allowed / permitted for safari rides within the Core area of the Tiger Reserve, only department- run vehicles are engaged for safaris

For availability services of the vehicle safari rides, visitors are requested to approach the new reception center at Theppakadu, located  about 100 meters from the main road; and purchase tickets.The vehicle rides is on first come first serve basis.

Evening: 3.00 PM to 5.30 PM

ELEPHANT SAFARI

DIRECTION

30 minutes elephant safari in the tourism zone. Current booking undertaken at Theppakadu Reception Range.

Elephant rides are subject to dry and favorable weather conditions prevailing.
